Music Director Mimi Xu Stars in the Resort 2014 Womenswear Campaign for Roland Mouret

Roland Mouret has launched his new Resort 2014 womenswear collection, exploring the “reality of women who enjoy being women”, with music director and sound designer Mimi Xu fronting the campaign.

An accomplished sound designer, developing music sets for numerous fashion projects around the world, Mimi Xu was chosen by Roland Mouret to front his Resort 2014 collection for her “prominent, androgynous yet sexy aesthetic”.

Speaking about Mimi’s involvement in the Resort 2014 campaign, Roland said: “We were interested in the reality of a woman in her age and her own life. This led us to Mimi who embodies a sense of independence, of female empowerment and is a modern woman in a man’s world.

“She has uniqueness, being a DJ and being in music, she has an amazing attitude and sense of self which is clearly expressed in how she moves. Even the best model cannot give you that on camera.”

The Resort 2014 collection from Roland Mouret has three distinct inspirations; Modern Reality of Colour, Silver Screen and The Look Book.

Modern Reality of Colour is an exploration of the therapeutic use of colour. The right colour schemes in a seasonal wardrobe can give the wearer what the weather can no longer guarantee; a sunny day.

Meanwhile, Silver Screen links in with this notion of therapeutic use of colour, combining old-school romance with 21st century attitude. Evoking the glamour of Cannes red carpets, and the romance of Monaco in the 50s, Silver Screen flows through the entire Resort 2014 collection.

Finally, The Look Book is a symbol of the evolution of the Roland Mouret brand. With a philosophy that is more about attitude than body shape, Roland develops the concept of separates further, allowing strong women to interpret the collection through their own eyes.
