Environmental Solutions Group earns award for verifying new homes that protect the environment through energy efficiency

Environmental Solutions Group is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a 2013 ENERGY STAR Leadership in Housing Award. This award recognizes the important contribution Environmental Solutions Group has made to energy-efficient construction and environmental protection by verifying 358 ENERGY STAR qualified homes last year. Collectively, these homes will save our customers approximately $160,000 on utility bills each year.

The environmental benefits of these ENERGY STAR qualified homes are equivalent to:

  •     Eliminating the emissions from 176 vehicles;
  •     Saving over 1 million lbs of coal; or
  •     Planting nearly 300 acres of trees.

Homes earning the ENERGY STAR label use 20-30 percent less energy than typical new homes and even more when compared to most resale homes on the market today. In addition to the everyday savings realized due to lower cost of operation, the ENERGY STAR label sets the home apart when it comes time to consider selling.

“It is the builders that drive this program, and as a certifier I find that it is my job to help them achieve the goals set forth by the ENERGY STAR program,” said Steve Armstrong, who serves as a senior energy analyst with Environmental Solutions Group. “I enjoy helping builders who want to refine their skills and build a superior product.”

ENERGY STAR qualified homes offer homebuyers all the features they want in a new home, plus energy-saving features like effective insulating systems, high performance windows, tight construction and ducts, properly-sized and installed efficient heating and cooling equipment, efficient products, and third-party verification of energy performance.

More than 1.4 million ENERGY STAR homes have been built in the United States since the program first began labeling homes in 1995, with 100,000 new ENERGY STAR homes built in 2012. Thanks to the dedication of ENERGY STAR partners, last year alone families living in ENERGY STAR qualified homes saved nearly $626 million on their utility bills and avoided greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 686,000 vehicles.
