RallyCross One X Games Munich 2013

“I’m here to win not to come second. I tried to be sensible and drive carefully, but as soon as you know it, one of my tires goes flat. All I could do is keep on pushing." Liam Doran

Munich, Germany (PRWEB) June 29, 2013

In a rain soaked re-run of the ill-fated Barcelona event at X Games Munich, 26-year-old British driver and Monster Energy Athlete Liam Doran took gold ahead of his team mate Ken Block who took silver.

The race titled RallyCross One at X Games Munich, which was scheduled as a makeup for Barcelona, featured eight of the best GRC drivers on the planet with both Doran and Block lined up on the front row after winning their respective heats with ease. Tearing away from the start in his black and green Monster Energy MINI John Cooper Works car, Doran soon found himself hot on the tail of the leader Toomas Heikkinen carefully biding his time before pulling off a determined maneuver on the hairpin corner to come through the dirt and take the lead.

Block, not to be outdone and with two laps to go, sensed his own opportunity to move up the podium places and quickly upped his speed to pull off a daring signature pass, again on Heikkinen, moving him into second place.

The soaked FröttmaRing circuit then proved to be the perfect stage for an intense final lap battle, which saw Block chase Doran all the way home, at one point bumping into the back of Doran’s car in a last-ditch passing attempt.

Block commented on the race, “It was rough, it was wet and I came close to getting the gold at the end as Liam was running a flat. It was a lot of fun and a great battle.”

Doran, understandably stoked with his win commented, “I’m here to win not to come second. I tried to be sensible and drive carefully, but as soon as you know it, one of my tires goes flat. All I could do is keep on pushing. Monster Energy have supported me a lot and it’s great to get the win for them.”

Race Two will commence tomorrow, June 30 for X Games Munich, which will be the third Global RallyCross event.
