The company known as Guitar Control has just posted a new lead guitar lesson on YouTube that teaches how to play the modes. Modes are basically built off of major scales and they’re considered to be an essential exercise for improving all sorts of six-string skills. Plus, they are an important piece of the musical puzzle and therefore something that everyone should practice at some point in the process of learning the guitar.
The talented teacher in this clip is Cameron Rasmussen and he is one of the newest members of Guitar Control’s team. This is his latest guitar lesson and it’s actually part one of who knows how many to follow, however those that like this one will probably want to keep an eye and ear open for the other related tutorials. Although Cameron is rather young, his abilities and knowledge are obviously beyond his years and he also has a likable easy going teaching style.
So in this particular lesson, Cameron conveys a couple of modal licks that may be effective exercises for many players. In fact, the fundamental Greek modes are involved which are known as the Ionian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Phyrgian, Aeolian, and Locrian. Although the names may be a bit difficult to pronounce, they’re not too tough to learn and play, plus mode tabs are available to show where the fingers go for those that need additional assistance.
Presently, it seems that playing the guitar may be more popular than ever before. Perhaps it’s partially due to companies like Guitar Control and their 320 video guitar lessons on YouTube that are not only informative, but also free. Plus, they have a long list of low cost DVDs that contain expert lessons on specific styles and for certain skill levels. So apparently nowadays, if someone wants to become an ace on the six-string, cyberspace may just be the place to begin exploring!
