NOAA Pacific: Preserving the Past Sustaining the Future, an online course in the 2013 DesignRealized Adaptive Reuse and Renovation Continuing Education Series, is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, at 12pm Pacific/3pm Eastern. Speaker Paul Woolford, AIA, LEED AP, with HOK, will demonstrate how and why the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii is one of the most environmentally innovative national historic landmarks in the U.S.
This Pacific Regional Center provides 400,000 sq. ft. of contiguous space for a diverse range of functions including the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the National Weather Service, and marine research. It is considered one of the most environmentally innovative national historic landmarks in the U.S. Some of the high performance design features include hydronic passive cooling and ventilation supported by a seawater well in addition to the absence of mechanical fans.
