Indiana Department of Education Receives Innovation In Education Award
Bakersfield, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Lightspeed Systems is pleased to recognize the Indiana Department of Education with the company’s second annual Innovation in Education Award. The award honors schools districts and educational agencies that exemplify innovative educational practices. These organizations place high priority on creating collaborative, mobile learning environments and improving the educational experience for students and teachers.
With a fervent commitment to embracing educational technology, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) has named 2013 the Year of the Digital Learner. The Department recognizes the amazing learning power the right tools—combined with the right solution—can have in the hands of students. The IDOE is dedicated to equipping educators with proper training and providing students with the opportunities for engaged and dynamic learning. Indiana’s enthusiasm for education is infectious and Lightspeed Systems is honored to acknowledge their achievements.
The IDOE has implemented new policies and adopted new pedagogy in their quest to change the classroom culture. The Department’s Office of eLearning was established to make innovative digital learning the reality in all Indiana schools and already they have made strides in this effort. The Imagining and Creating eLearning Grant was instituted this past year to identify three main areas in which the IDOE is aiming their focus: Digital Content, Customized Learning, and Flexible Scheduling. Over fifty districts in Indiana applied for the grants—that means over fifty districts are making innovative changes in the way teachers teach and students learn.
Changes are also happening in regards to classroom resources. Instead of using funds to purchase cumbersome and quickly outdated textbooks, the IDOE has allocated money to equip students with digital devices loaded with online content. This allows students to receive relevant information and curriculum anytime, anywhere—truly creating digital learners. Using My Big Campus, the collaborative Learning Management System from Lightspeed Systems, the IDOE is able to provide students with access to both NBC Learn and NROC content—enriching the classroom experience with media-rich content and creating a safe mobile learning environment.
All of these changes could not be possible without the full support of Indiana educators. The IDOE has committed to comprehensive training and professional development opportunities to ensure teachers are comfortable with and excited about the new technology-driven learning opportunities. The Summer of eLearning 2013 will bring together educators and thought leaders to connect and engage in discussion, best practices, and new ideas—all focused on ways to bring technology into the classroom.
