San Diego State University will launch a new Green Property Management Certificate program through its College of Extended Studies during the fall semester in a partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and the San Diego Housing Federation. In part, the program will focus on low income and multi-family housing and how using and learning about water, energy and landscaping will reduce costs to the owners and tenants.
“SDG&E is committed to supporting education and development that will help propel our region toward a greener future,” said Ted Reguly, SDG&E’s director of customer programs and projects. “We are proud to partner with San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies and the San Diego Housing Federation on this program that provides valuable workforce training in green building and sustainable business practices, particularly in the important area of affordable housing.”
This program is designed to provide students with environmentally responsible development and property management education and training. They will become equipped with the fundamental skills necessary to manage residential and commercial properties.
“The San Diego Housing Federation is proud to partner with San Diego Gas and Electric and San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies to provide a professional development opportunity that ensures that we are preparing professionals for careers that put them on the cutting edge of their craft,” said Susan Riggs Tinsky, executive director, San Diego Housing Federation. “The courses that are part of the Professional Certificate in Green Development and Property Management provide participants with the knowledge to build better, more sustainable homes and infrastructure that all San Diegans will benefit from.”
Students will engage in advanced training in green building and sustainable business practices so that they can improve energy and environmental performance in existing multifamily buildings, rental residences, and commercial space. Online courses will emphasize practices and tools that will help property managers, building operators and other building professionals stand out among their peers.
This program is targeted to individuals wanting to get into a new, fast-growing career, property managers, resident services coordinators, maintenance technicians, real estate managers, project managers, asset managers, assistant asset managers, maintenance employees, inspectors, and anyone interested in developing best practices for property management, development, and operations.
