The Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) is pleased to announce its 2013-2014 Board of Directors. Rula Awwad-Rafferty, PhD, Professor, College of Art & Architecture, University of Idaho, will serve as the Chair. A longtime EDRA member, Awwad-Rafferty was elected to the EDRA Board of Directors in 2012 and previously served as Chair-Elect. In 2012 she served as co-chair of the 43rd Annual EDRA conference in Seattle, Washington.
“I am honored to serve as the Chair of EDRA, the premier organization of environment, behavior and design researchers, practitioners, artists, and scholars in the United States and across the world,” said Awwad-Rafferty. “I look forward to working with the EDRA Board and membership to strengthen our ties to diverse organizations and individuals and to develop partnerships as we continue the EDRA tradition of inquiry, reflection, and innovation. Together we make strides toward our mission creating and stewarding memorable and just places where people, cultures, and whole ecosystems thrive and prosper.”
Serving as this year’s Chair-Elect is Shauna Mallory-Hill, PhD, M.Arch, B.E.S., LEED AP, Assistant Professor, Department of Interior Design, Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, Canada. Paula Horrigan, MLA, Associate Professor, Department of Landscape Architecture, Cornell University, serves as Secretary. Treasurer is Gowri Betrabet Gulwadi, PhD, Coordinator of Interior Design Program and Associate Professor of Interior Design, University of Northern Iowa.
The following individuals will serve as Directors at Large: David L. Boeck AIA, IDEC, NCARB, LEED AP, Associate Professor of Architecture, College of Architecture, University of Oklahoma; Mallika Bose, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Landscape Architecture, Pennsylvania State University; Tasoulla Hadjiyanni, PhD, Associate Professor, Interior Design, University of Minnesota; and Nicholas Watkins, PhD, Principal and Research Lead, BBH Design.
The Student Representative is Marwa Abdelmonem, PhD Candidate, Interior Environmental Design, Texas Tech University. The Ex-Officio directors are April Spivack, PhD, Assistant Professor, College of Business, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and Kate O’Donnell, EDRA Executive Director. EDRA is especially delighted to announce an inaugural position for this year: Henry Sanoff, ACSA & Alumni Distinguished Emeritus Professor, North Carolina State University, and historic founder of EDRA, has been named the inaugural Emeritus Board Member, an ex-officio position established in 2013.
