The Cloud Communications Alliance (CCA), the only industry peer association specifically dedicated to the advancement of cloud communications technologies, announced that James T. Nikolai, an officer and shareholder at the Minneapolis based intellectual property firm Nikolai & Mersereau, P.A., will present on “The Attack of the Patent Trolls” at the CCA’s upcoming meeting in San Diego.
Nikolai’s presentation will focus on the growing threat patent trolls pose to technology companies, resellers and end users, and how organizations can best protect themselves. Specifically, Nikolai will address how the popularity of cloud solutions are attracting an increasing number of trolls looking to capitalize on a fast-growing market. He will also discuss pending legislation to combat frivolous patent infringement lawsuits.
“Resellers and distributors are attractive targets for patent trolls but are often unprepared for the expense and difficulty of mounting a legal defense,” said Nikolai. “By understanding what motivates trolls and the possible risks, organizations can make informed decisions on how to respond.”
“Unfortunately, an attack by patent trolls is a very real possibility for our members. We appreciate that Jim is willing to share his expertise and help to educate them in the event that they have to deal with this kind of scenario,” said Joseph Marion, president, CCA.
The third quarter CCA meeting will take place on October 14th and 15th at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel and will immediately precede the Broadsoft Connections Conference. More information, including a link to register, can be found at the CCA events page.
