Actor enters 'Chavez: Cage of Glory' to escape stereotypical roles. - Los Angeles Times

Destiny Entertainment will be releasing Chavez: Cage of Glory in theatres starting in Los Angeles, on September 13 and then distributed in theaters nationwide through a multi-city roll-out release.
Martial arts champion and international businessman Hector Echavarria stars in the film, which co-stars Danny Trejo (Machete) and Steven Bauer (Ray Donovan).
In the film, Echavarria plays Hector Chavez, an underdog MMA club fighter who becomes an Internet sensation and is invited to compete for the championship belt. Well-known Real MMA personalities Heath Herring and Tony Lopez are among those who battle Chavez in the film.
The World premiere will take place at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatre, 6801 Hollywood Blvd 3rd floor, on Thursday, September 5. Joining the stars of the film Hector Echavarria, Steven Bauer, Sadie Katz and MMA Champion Heath Herring, will be actor Esai Morales, The Bridge star Daniel E. Mora, Reggaeton star Miguelito, Hakeem Kae Kazzim (Hotel Rwanda), Purple Rain star Apollonia, Kyle Keller, star of VH1’s Tough Love:Coed, actor Razaaq Adoti, Apocalypto star Rudy Youngblood, National Association of Latino Producers President Frank Gonzalez, comedian Jill Michelle Melean, actor Jacob Vargas and David Damian Figueroa, Vice President of MALDEF, Nigerian Superstars Obba Babatunde, Jeta Amata, Hakeem Kae Kazim.
For several years, Hector Echavarria has been refining his filmmaking skills, producing a very successful series of movies for the video market, many for Lionsgate Films, each based on martial arts themes. Chavez: Cage of Glory is the first of five theatrical releases Echavarria will produce and star in, and the film will be distributed in theaters nationwide through a multi-city roll-out release. Echavarria has built a following in the Latino community and Martial Arts World. When he was a child, Echavarria was a sickly and died twice but brought back to life. His Parents, desperate, not knowing what to do decided to put him in Martial Arts classes and that is how he overcame his illness through training and strengthening his body both inside out. He is an advocate of fitness and training helping teens and children fight Child Obesity in the Hispanic Community, a much untouched subject in that community, by teaming up with La Curacao the largest Hispanic Furniture store in the United States, together bringing health and fitness awareness in the community.
Chavez: Cage of Glory is a story we can all relate to, a movie about real life issues, everyday struggles of family, sacrifice and survival while entertaining the audience.
