As Apple announces its best iPhone yet – only a year after the iPhone 5 – gadget recycling firm Sell My Lectrics is reminding cash-strapped consumers they can sell iPhone legacy devices via its website, and get quick cash to buy the new devices.

On Tuesday, September 10, Apple announced two new iPhone devices – the 5S, and the more affordable 5C. Both hit stores on Friday, September 20.

Apple fans who bought the original iPhone 5 at launch and want to upgrade will have to stump up another $649 for the new 5S – the same price they paid for the iPhone 5 almost exactly one year ago (September 21, 2012).

Compared to the iPhone 5C, the 5S offers faster performance, a fingerprint-sensing security lock, a better camera and aluminum casing – instead of the 5C’s bright plastic case.

It’s also more expensive, costing $649 for an unlocked 16GB model without a wireless service plan - $100 more than a 16GB iPhone 5C.

Sell My Lectrics spokesman, Leonard Stumke, said: "It’s great that Apple’s packed this phone with new features, and is selling it at the same price as its predecessor."

"But for real Apple fans like us, who have to get on our hands on the latest devices as soon as they come out, it’s too much to be expected to fork out more than $600 every 12 months or so."

Leonard Stumke said: "If you’re strapped for cash, you could try selling your old iPhone through an auction site or classified ad."

"However, placing the ad, finding a buyer and making sure you get your cash can take ages – and when you’re excited about a new gadget, waiting can be really, really tough."

"Sell iPhone devices through Sell My Lectrics, though, and you’ll get your money much quicker – typically within 24 hours."

Sell My Lectrics recycles gadgets by reintroducing them to market, or sending them to be refurbished. This prevents toxic e-waste polluting rubbish dumps.

Users can sell iPhone cell phone models, from the 3GS to the iPhone 5, and can also sell iPad tablets, and iPod MP3 players.

As well as Apple products, Sell My Lectrics accepts games consoles like the Nintendo DS and 3DS, and the Sony PSP and PS Vita.
