The naturopath’s vital role in disease prevention and the democratization of medicine is the theme of the keynote address by David Humphrey, president of Kirkman Group, Inc. (Kirkman®), at the annual convocation ceremonies at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) on Friday, Sept. 20.
Kirkman® is a 64 year-old nutraceutical company that manufactures nutritional supplements especially for individuals that may have allergies, environmental sensitivities or special dietary requirements.
Humphrey’s speech will focus on how to have a successful medical career by taking advantage of historical changes in medicine.
“We are living at a crossroads in medicine. There is a new generation of doctors that will take advantage of these new trends and will have very successful practices and loyal patients,” Humphrey says. “This presentation will discuss the convergence between technology and medicine and the explosive changes that are coming.”
Humphrey will touch on medical topics that apply to all generations – including discussing the possibility of a person at 60 years old living another healthy 30 years, how to treat and potentially reverse the chronic medical or mental health conditions 40 percent of children are diagnosed with by the age of 5 and how simple changes to a pregnant woman’s lifestyle – including diet, supplements and testing – may be able to reduce miscarriage and preterm labor rates, as well as chronic childhood illnesses, which are raising at an alarming rate.
“Humphrey has been a tireless advocate for chronically ill children and children on the autism spectrum. He has been active in founding several organizations devoted to autism research and treatment,” says Bill Tribe, NCNM alumni officer.
The event, which celebrates the start of a new academic year, will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m., at the college, 049 SW Porter St, Portland, Ore., in The Great Hall (Room 310), which will soon be renamed to Mitchell Hall in honor of Bill Mitchell, NCNM former faculty member and co-founder of Bastyr University.
