WHAT: Harris Teeter will make a $75,000 donation to Make-A-Wish® Central and Western North Carolina at the start of the Andrew Roby’s annual “Pitchin for Wishes” Cornhole Tournament at Freedom Park. The money was raised through the generosity of Harris Teeter vendors who will participate in a cornhole tournament hosted by Harris Teeter on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013. The winners of the Harris Teeter cornhole tournament will also participate in the “Pitchin’ for Wishes” tournament.
Andrew Roby has hosted “Pitchin’ for Wishes” since 2008 and raised over $350,000 for charity. The 2013 event will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 during which two-person teams will gather at the Freedom Park Baseball Fields to raise money for Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina and compete for a chance to win first or second place cash prizes.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy at a time when they need it most. For many, it marks a turning point in their fight against their illness. The average cost to grant a child’s wish through Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina is $6,000. One hundred percent of the funds raised within the community will fund the wishes of the local children.
