It’s about presenting the real, human benefits of the Foundation’s work in the most compelling way possible.

Focal Point Productions has been commissioned by New Westminster’s Queen’s Park Healthcare Foundation to produce a three-minute promotional video for use as a fundraising tool. The video will marry the state-of-the-art production values characteristic of the corporate sector with the intimacy essential for telling personal stories.

Focal Point’s Martin Denny welcomes the challenge of using his 30 years experience working with businesses to create an effective, quality film with a non-corporate budget. For the multi-award-winning filmmaker (Gold Award, US International Film & Video Festival Chicago, Gold, MarCom Awards, Silver and Bronze winner at the International Telly Awards), working with the not-for-profit foundation represents an opportunity to use his scriptwriting and film expertise in a new way. “It’s not just about the mechanics of filming and production values,” says Denny. “It’s about presenting the real, human benefits of the Foundation’s work in the most compelling way possible.”

The video will convey the Foundation’s message by focusing on a single resident, Lillian Major. At the age of 86, Major wrote a published a book about her youthful adventures. Now 88, Major is a direct beneficiary of the Foundation’s initiatives within the Queen’s Park Care Centre.

The Queen’s Park Health Care Foundation uses partnerships, education and funding to enhance the well-being of elders at the Queen’s Park Care Centre and in the local community. In order to fulfill its mandate, the Foundation recognized the need for more sophisticated communication tools. The forthcoming video is part of a comprehensive program which also includes a new website and community outreach initiatives. “It is very tempting for small not-for-profits such as ours to make the mistake of sacrificing quality for costs,” says Lorraine Brett, chair of the Queen’s Park Health Care Foundation. “We decided to seek proposals only from production companies with a track record of producing cost-effective, quality work and the personal empathy to bring the people’s stories to the small screen. Focal Point excelled at both.” Queen’s Park Healthcare Foundation’s new website and video are scheduled to be online by November 1, 2013.
