HR Strategies first implemented the HumanaVitality wellness program among its internal employees during the last plan year, September 2012 through August 2013. This plan year, they’re ramping up their efforts and using their experience to make this year’s wellness initiative even better.
HR Strategies will kick off the new program in October, challenging its internal employees to live healthier. According to the Humana, “It’s about helping you discover how healthy living every day can lead to a lifetime of being the best possible you." HumanaVitality is their rewards program for living a healthy lifestyle. HR Strategies internal employees continue to use the pedometers they were issued last autumn, and a healthy dose of friendly competition has been seen among the internal staff. Walking challenges like “Walk the Turkey Off” encourage employees to walk over 10,000 steps each day during the four days of the Thanksgiving holiday. That means walking almost five miles a day! Other company events like the St. Jude Give Thanks. Walk. and Relay For Life also encourage activity as well as create a supportive community atmosphere.
Fun workplace challenges can introduce movement and activity into the lives of employees who aren’t accustomed to working out. Scavenger hunts, 5K ‘Fun Runs’, self defense courses, dance classes, and team building exercises are all great alternatives to traditional exercise. At HR Strategies, Fun Fridays are held every other month during the lunch hour, and these often include activities that require movement. HR Strategies internal staff also holds Lunch and Learns to educate employees about healthful living. Though the activities and Lunch and Learns generally last only an hour, the knowledge and experience gained about being healthy has the power to change lives and potentially increase lifespans.
HR Strategies is passionate about wellness, and HumanaVitality is a big part of their long-term goal of healthful living for all employees.
