Ideal Innovations is the first American company to be awarded a contract by the African Union Commission (AUC). The company will install a large-scale integrated security and safety management system for the AUC in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ideal Innovations, Inc. (I3), a veteran-owned firm specializing in law enforcement, biometrics, access control and security-related systems, has been awarded a contract by the African Union Commission (AUC) to support a large-scale integrated security and safety management system. This is the first major contract awarded to an American company and funded by the AUC. The contract is valued at $3.2 million.

I3 will install a new security system that will include Closed-Circuit Television Cameras, as well as Intrusion Detection, Access Control, Emergency Alarm and Patrol systems. The system will be designed to protect three sensitive sites at the AUC headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: the AUC Compound buildings, fence and perimeter parking areas and selected AUC residences. Installation will be complete in June 2013.

President and CEO of I3, Bob Kocher, said, “I3 currently supports complex, integrated security requirements for various U.S. Department of Defense and international customers and our expert team stands ready to assist the AUC with this program.”

“We are very proud to have Ideal Innovations Inc. serve as the Prime Contractor for this critical security program,” said Tinsea Beriso, the AUC Security Project Coordinator. “I3 has proven itself a highly professional and highly skilled company possessing the security and technical expertise the AUC requires to fulfill the many requirements associated with this specific program. The program is a high priority within the AUC and we look forward to a long-term relationship with I3.”

The AUC is the Secretariat of the African Union entrusted with executive functions. It is composed of 10 officials, representing the Union and protecting its interest under the auspices of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government as well as the Executive Committee. Areas of policy include Peace and Security, Political Affairs, Trade and Industry, Infrastructure and Energy, Social Affairs, Rural Economy and Agriculture, Human Resources, Science and Technology and Economic Affairs.

I3 is pleased to have the Ethiopian company OSS Engineering as a team member on this project. OSS Engineering offers expertise in network and data communications, construction, software applications and development, technical services, training and support services. The company will also play a key role in providing local labor, reflecting I3’s initiative to contribute to the long-term growth of an expanding Ethiopian economy.

I3 acknowledges the assistance rendered by the US Commercial Service and Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VALET Program) in its successful pursuit of this business opportunity.
