“I think right now the world is in great need of each of us evolving to a new level of awareness, a new level of inner strength, a new level of confidence, where we can stand up for ourselves … speak our truth. And more importantly, we can deliver our divine gifts to the world. Because each of us has a gift, each of us has an imprint to leave the world, and if we don’t have the courage to leave our imprint — who are we?” Debbie Ford, whose 1998 book “The Dark Side of the Light Chasers” became a New York Times bestselling title, spoke about the importance of women having courage in an interview with The Best of You Today.
The extensive interview with Ford for the leading inspirational resource site for women was recently posted through a limited release for non-members. Visitors to The Best of You Today website can watch the little over 18-minute video feature from the “Interview Series” and discover much of the bestselling author’s insights on strength, inner confidence, courage, and overcoming life’s struggles.
The Best of You Today remarks, “It would be impossible to describe the impact of a woman who transformed the lives of so many, but through words perhaps we can honor the beautiful life and tragic loss of inspirational leader Debbie Ford … Not only did Debbie change her own life, she led thousands of others to embrace the past, let go, and discover their limitless potential with acceptance.”
Ford, who openly admitted her struggles with drug addiction in her teens, passed away at 57 from cancer on February 17, 2013. The inspirational figure credited Deepak Chopra for her own shift in perception after hearing the renowned inspirational speaker in one of his talks. Her first book “The Dark Side of the Light Chasers” drew massive readership after she talked about it on “Oprah” in 2000 and it consequently wound up on the New York Times bestseller list.
Ford went on to write several more books such as “The Best Year of Your Life,” “The Shadow Effect” (co-written with Chopra and Marianne Williamson), and “The Right Questions,” among a few others. In the interview, Ford also spoke about her latest book “Courage: Overcoming Fear and Igniting Self-Confidence,” which she described as a guide towards spiritual awakening for women to find the “courageous warriors inside themselves.”
According to The Best of You Today, “Debbie’s brief conversation with us left an impression that resonates in all that we do and we can only hope to continue the legacy that she so perfectly demonstrated. Debbie spoke eloquently of her mission, moving not only us, but also her audience throughout the world.”
The Best of You Today’s interview with Ford also includes how the inspirational leader was able to overcome her battle with substance abuse.
“When I finally went into my last drug treatment,” Ford offered in the interview and continued, “I had been in five — I woke up and knew I was either going to die or have to become something better than I was … ‘cause where I was, was mediocre or intolerable to me … We have the choice to move powerfully into the future or stay stuck in the past. When we have resentments, when we have victim mentality, we’re stuck in the past … If we find the courage to say ‘how can I use this ugliness, this pain, to become a greater part of the universe,’ then we find the courage to do it … and we do it one step at a time.”
“Debbie represents all that The Best of You Today stands for,” says the online community for women, “and we will forever remember her fearlessness towards life, love, and the pursuit of the perfection that lives within us all. We hope you find Debbie’s message inspirational and encourage you to share it with those who can continue her message of love.”
