Doogue O'Brien George, a Criminal Law specialist firm and one of Australia's leading law firms, recently disclosed its jury trial statistics for 2012. The statistics showed that 80% of their clients were not found guilty after a jury trial.

And just this May, the Victorian Bar announced the winners of the 2013 Pro Bono Awards where solicitors John Desmond and Richard Edney won the Ron Merkel QC Award for representing Mr. Peter Dupas in his appeal at the Victorian Court of Criminal Appeal. Doogue O'Brien George was critical to the success of the appeal, serving as instructing solicitors for the case.

These statistics and achievements serve as a testament to the company's success in its firm commitment to provide a service superior to other law firms in Victoria; they come at the heels of the significant steps it has taken to firmly establish itself as the largest assembled team of specialists in one firm.

One of these crucial steps is to strengthen their criminal defence firm whose practice is spread among five offices across Melbourne.

Clients can count on the knowledge, skill and expertise of a law firm that has defended more than 24,000 criminal prosecutions, appearing in all Victorian Courts on a daily basis. Over the course of the last five years, the firm has handled high profile cases and some of the largest Commonwealth and State prosecutions.

Doogue O’Brien George brings together an expert team of 13 solicitors, with seven of them having Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) accreditation in criminal law, the highest number of specialists in a Victorian law firm. Aside from five years of full-time practice and specialisation in Criminal law, only those lawyers who have demonstrated and applied high knowledge of law in their practice are given LIV Accreditation. This means that across Doogue O'Brien George's five offices in Melbourne, Broadmeadows, Heidelberg, Sunshine and Moorabbin, there is at least one accredited specialist.

"This symbolises the principle of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. However, the parts and the history of Doogue O’Brien George are, indeed, noteworthy," explained Bill Doogue, Partner of the firm.

But despite these achievements and the firm's commendable track record, Doogue O'Brien George continuously strives to achieve the best results for its clients. And one critical step towards this is the constant upgrade of the skills of its roster of solicitors.

Just recently, the firm participated in Australian Defence Lawyer's Association Alliance (ADLA) Conference. ADLA is comprised of the leading criminal law firms in the country of which Doogue O'Brien George are founding members. The conference, which was conducted in Sydney and was hosted by NSW representatives Armstrong Legal, brought together member firms from all states and territories to share their knowledge and resources.

“Our vision is to serve as Victoria’s premier criminal law firm by growing, training and extending ourselves beyond our already notable achievements and experience,” Bill Doogue explains.

Currently, Doogue O'Brien George handles numerous cases ranging from murder, sexual offences, drug charges, corporate criminal liability, drink driving offences and other traffic matters, assault charges, terrorism and bribery of foreign officials.

And apart from this, the firm also maintains a content-rich blog which is useful for those seeking information. The blog explores content outside of the facts of the law and encourages engagement and discussion.

"Criminal Law is different to commercial law and the strategic decisions you make need to be based on experience and not guesswork. You need a criminal lawyer acting for you that has constant experience in the area to get you the best outcome," Bill Doogue added.
