Recognizing the need for a neutral online workspace where organizations can cooperatively develop joint standards in a secure environment, Kavi has launched the Joint Standards Network. This web-based environment is open at no charge to any two or more standards developing organizations that collaborate on joint standards or other cross-organizational efforts.

Kavi Corporation, a leader in formal collaboration and consensus building software, announced today open availability to its Joint Standards Network to organizations working together on joint standards or other vital documents.

A joint standard is one in which two or more organizations in related industries work together to build a shared, mutually beneficial standard. Joint standards collaboration can be challenging because of the difficulty agreeing upon a neutral working environment and procedures.

While some standards developing organizations (SDOs) invite their collaborators to share in-house systems, this can result in extra fees or possible privacy and/or policy issues. The Joint Standards Network addresses this with a shared, neutral environment that aims to reduce development costs and avoid issues related to intellectual property and confidentiality.

"The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and its standards committee members have enjoyed working with Kavi Workspace since 2011. CEA regularly collaborates with other organizations and we look forward to using this new service," said Dave Wilson, Senior Director, Technology & Standards at the Consumer Electronics Association.

Kavi’s Joint Standards Network is flexible enough to meet the governance and communication needs of the participant organizations. The integrated tool set automatically tracks and collects all activity, provides detailed traceability, and supports a paperless audit. The site promotes compliance with each organization’s policies and with the widely recognized Essential Requirements for Due Process, published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

The need for the Joint Standards Network emerged from Kavi Customers and other thought leaders in the standards development community, who have contributed to the design and configuration of the site. Ed Mikoski, Vice President, EIA Standards and Technology for the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), one of the customers who advised Kavi on the JSN, commented, “Joint standards setting today makes sense. It’s a flexible platform of multiple secure work areas accessible anywhere anytime with comment tracking, assignable action items, progress mapping, and notification emails.”

Organizations interested in taking advantage of the Joint Standards Network can visit http://www.jointstandards.net to join an existing standard, start a new project or get more information.
