LeanKit, the leader in kanban*-based visual project and workflow management solutions announces the appointment of Leonard Safford to its executive team as Chief Financial Officer. Safford brings a wealth of experience building world-class financial organizations for major industry companies including Deustche Bank and Lehman Brothers. In addition, his most recent experience helping high growth companies quickly scale their financial operations will help LeanKit continue to keep pace with the current market growth.

Safford comes to LeanKit after serving as Chief Financial Officer at the start-up Universal Safety Response, Inc. where, as one of the four senior executives, he helped to grow the company to a highly successful, full service entity with sales rocketing from $2M to $55M in just 6 years and to negotiate the sale to Smith & Wesson Security Solutions.

“Len has a strong background in financial management and his recent experience with the needs and demands of a fast growing organization made him a perfect fit for LeanKit. His rich skills serve our company beyond the typical CFO role,” said founder and CEO, Chris Hefley.

LeanKit has created an online visual project management tool based on the highly popular kanban system of managing workflow, which has its roots in Lean manufacturing. LeanKit is finding wide spread adoption due to its visualization, ease of use and simplicity in getting started. Most teams can get started using the tool in a matter of minutes. It’s highly visual nature makes it extremely powerful for managers - by easily being able to see what teams are working on, managers can quickly identify bottlenecks and show stoppers. In many cases issues can be resolved before they turn into real problems.

"LeanKit has an excellent product, a strong and growing client base, and a team committed to delivering software that enables people to work better together," said Safford. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with Chris and the rest of the team as we help to transform the way teams collaborate and deliver their work."

*What is Kanban? Very simply, Kanban uses sticky notes and a whiteboard to visualize a process, improve collaboration, and measure productivity.
