Considering the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received after hosting this competition last year we are committed to making this year even more special.

It may only be the beginning of February, but all across the United States junior and senior girls have already begun searching their local dress boutiques and scouring the internet in search of the perfect prom dress. Online dress retailer Promgirl.net is already filling orders from around the country and around the globe and any girl who waits for the spring to begin her search may be shocked to learn that her peers all staked claim to the hottest styles long before the snow melted.

Prom has long been a fascinating microcosm of the world of high fashion, and while the dresses get more creative, more couture and more costly with each passing year, the fashion world still struggles to indentify the rapidly changing tastes of their next generation of consumers. It was for this reason that Promgirl.net started their Facebook Design Contest in 2012 and has just announced the return of the incredibly popular social media competition for 2013.

The contest, which is hosted through Promgirl.net’s Facebook page is open to any aspiring designer but draws a crowd that is mostly comprised of high school aged girls whose search for the perfect prom dress has given them a crash course in cutting edge fashion. Each contestant can submit original sketches that are shared through Promgirl.net’s Facebook page and voted on by fellow users as well as a panel of industry experts. The designers behind the designs that are most liked, commented on and receive the highest marks from the judges are rewarded with prizes from Promgirl.net.
“This contest not only allows girls from all over the world an opportunity to share their designs and network with others who are interested in fashion, but it provides Promgirl.net with invaluable information regarding what styles are catching the eye of prom girls everywhere,” said Sunny Adrian, president of Promgirl.net. “Considering the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received after hosting this competition last year we are committed to making this year even more special.”

One of the key differences between the 2013 contest and the design contest hosted last year is the level of feedback and participation offered to competitors and viewers alike. “Last year our panel of designers and industry professionals voted on the top style, and that was that,” according to Mr. Adrian “This year we are inviting the girls and their friends into to decision making process, allowing them to like and comment on each other’s dresses which will influence the overall rankings.”

Mr. Adrian went on to explain that this year their panel of judges will only be able to contribute to 49% of a sketch’s rating, meaning that the remaining 51 will be influenced by social media users themselves.

Promgirl Inc. is an online retailer of prom dresses and gowns, cocktail and formal attire.
