The session, attended by mobile network operators from around the world shared key findings from Ovum’s global BYOD research. The data revealed that BYOD is a widespread phenomenon across all markets and vertical sectors, yet only 11.9% of employees using their personally owned mobile device for work related purposes are doing so within a managed framework.
This is set to change; enterprises are now actively looking for BYOD solutions.
Rockshore’s own research offered further insight into the threat of BYOD to carriers, demonstrating that 57% of enterprises intended to use a third party device management application to manage BYOD in the workplace, however, only 5% would consider seeking advice from their mobile network operator before implementation.
Ovum’s research revealed a range of application vendors are land-grabbing in the enterprise mobility services space and hinted to an emergent trend for the abstraction of applications by carriers, to ensure that they retain control of their enterprise customer experience and are not just the channel to market for enterprises looking to implement BYOD.
