Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 22, 2013
Students at Barack Obama Charter School (BOCS) in Los Angeles will kick-off the new school year with donated back packs, books and haircuts. Up to 500 students will be receiving the donated back to school items. Obama Charter families and staff are also invited to attend the barbeque event, sponsored by World Vision and The Molina Foundation, this Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the school campus (1726 E. 117th Street, Los Angeles, California, 90059).
“We are grateful for the support of our partners, World Vision and The Molina Foundation, who last year visited our school to provide students with much-needed supplies and infused them with enthusiasm for returning to school and increasing their reading skills,” said Glenn Noreen, Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Ingenium Schools – a charter school management organization that provides high-quality instruction through a performance-based program to hundreds of students in some of Los Angeles’s most ethnically diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities.
Barack Obama Charter School (BOCS) is a high-performing elementary campus serving students from Compton, Lynwood, Los Angeles, Long Beach and surrounding communities that uses the Ingenium Learning System (ILS) – a performance-based educational program focusing on the needs of each child through a student-centered environment – to provide individualized instruction to youth.
The ILS model, which utilizes continuous improvement, shared vision, leadership and personal mastery as the foundation for its program, is based on the Re-Inventing Schools Coalition (RISC) program developed at Alaska’s Chugach School District. In 2001, the program won the Baldrige Award, the nation’s highest recognition for organizational performance excellence. Using the ILS, BOCS’s Academic Performance Index (API) score increased by 175 points during the 2011-2012 school year, a notable achievement.
