Saint Augustine, FL (PRWEB) May 31, 2013
Q1Medicare.com now includes the latest May 2013 Medicare prescription drug data recently released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The 2013 CMS drug data is included in the Q1Medicare Formulary Browser, Drug Finder, and Long-Term Care Drug tools for 2013 Medicare Prescription Drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans with prescription drug coverage.
The new Medicare drug data includes the addition of 131 national drug codes representing 77 different prescription medications, many with multiple strengths or delivery forms and impacts several hundred Medicare Part D prescription drug plan formularies. Details of the May 2013 drug data changes are summarized in the Q1Medicare blog with links to illustrate the variation in coverage details offered by all Medicare Part D plans in a particular state.
The May drug data update also impacts some of the most popular Medicare Part D prescription drugs by seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries. For example, the May 2013 data included the addition of Valsartan-HCTZ 160-12.5 mg to 294 Medicare Part D plan formularies as a generic alternative to Diovan HCT®. In addition, the generic medication Atorvastatin continues to grow in popularity and is now included in over 317 Medicare drug plan formularies. On the other hand, the number of formularies covering the brand-name drug Lipitor® has decreased from 225 formularies in early 2012 to only 68 Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plan formularies in May 2013.
Specific changes to individual Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plan formularies can be viewed using the 2013 Q1Medicare Formulary Browser allowing users to view any Medicare prescription drug plan’s entire formulary online. The Formulary Browser also includes coverage details for each medication and information on the average retail drug prices.
The May 2013 drug data update is also incorporated in the Q1Medicare Long-Term Care (LTC) Drug Tool that cross-references over 160 of the most popular brand-name and generic medications used by LTC facilities and helps to provide an enrollment grid with the available Medicare Part D prescription drug plans qualifying for the low-income subsidy $0 premium and institutional Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans (SNPs). For example, the LTC drug tool for Florida can be found at: Q1Medicare.com/LTC/FL.
“Seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries can be affected each month by the CMS drug data updates and our Formulary Browser quickly displays the coverage details of a particular Medicare plan,” notes Dr. Susan Johnson, Technical Director and co-founder of Q1Medicare. “Alternatively, our Drug Finder and LTC drug tools provide an overview of how all Medicare plans in a particular area cover a specific medication.”
The Q1Medicare Formulary Browser, Drug Finder, and Long-Term Care Drug tools are available to all site visitors at no cost and designed for PC, smartphone and tablet platforms. As a convenience, the results of the Q1Medicare 2013 Formulary Browser and Drug Finder can be printed for offline use.
