Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) March 04, 2013
Effective navigation of the modern defense acquisition space requires the ability to understand and absorb the lessons of the past. The Historic Breechloading Smallarms Association (HBSA) has recognized Adam Firestone, WSO2 director of defense and government solutions, for his achievement in this area, naming Adam a recipient of HBSA’s 2012 President’s Cup and Gold Medal.
The award recognizes Adam’s contributions to firearms research and the book he co-authored, “Allied Rifle Contracts in America,” which covers the production of rifles in American factories for Allied powers during World War I prior to the United States’ entry into the war. The book examines the history of acquisition program planning and program execution, focused through the lens of small arms procurement during World War I. Many of the core concepts continue to apply to defense acquisition best practices today.
“The Historic Breechloading Smallarms Association is a prestigious and globally recognized organization dedicated to world-class scholarship in a subject area that merges history and technical nuance,” Adam Firestone said. “I am deeply honored to receive the 2012 HBSA President’s Award, which both recognizes achievements in research and scholarship, and reflects the deep expertise that WSO2 can bring to the defense industry.”
Adam recently joined WSO2 to develop new technology solutions designed to address the unique challenges facing today’s military, intelligence and government organizations. A former US Army officer and defense industry IT executive, Adam has led the design and development of critical weapons and command and control systems, as well as spearheading the integration of open source software and principles within the defense enterprise. In his spare time, he advises romance authors about the proper use of weapons and technology in their novels.
