Many Medicare Part D plan members will be affected by the 2013 drug data changes and with our Formulary Browser, people can quickly see the details of their particular plan’s 2013 prescription drug coverage.
Saint Augustine, FL (PRWEB) November 29, 2012
Q1Medicare.com now has their 2013 Medicare Part D Drug Finder, Formulary Browser, and Long-Term Care Drug tools online and urges Medicare beneficiaries to ensure that their medications are covered by their chosen 2013 Medicare Part D plan or Medicare Advantage plan. Each of these three Q1Medicare prescription drug tools is slightly different and designed to meet the varying needs of the Medicare community.
First, the Q1Medicare Drug Finder helps beneficiaries see how any Medicare Part D drug is covered by different stand-alone Part D plans or Medicare Advantage plans in their service area. For instance, the medication Quetiapine Fumarate, the generic for Seroquel®, is available on 292 Medicare prescription drug plan formularies in 2013, but the cost of coverage for this generic can differ widely between plans with co-payments ranging from $0 to over $45 depending on the chosen plan. In fact, some Medicare plans treat this generic medication just like the brand-name equivalent and organize the generic on the same cost-sharing tier as a “Non-Preferred Brand Drug”. As an example, the Florida stand-alone Medicare Part D plans that cover the generic Quetiapine Fumarate can be found at: Q1Rx.com/Finder/FL/47335090288.
In addition, Medicare beneficiaries will also find that many 2013 Medicare plan formularies now include some of the most popular and recently introduced generic medications while at the same time, the plans no longer cover the original brand-name drug equivalents. For example, over 300 formularies in 2013 will include the generic medication Atorvastatin while the number of formularies covering the brand-name equivalent, Lipitor®, has decreased from 225 formularies in early 2012 to only 67 Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plan formularies in 2013.
As an alternative to the Drug Finder, the 2013 Q1Medicare Formulary Browser allows beneficiaries to search alphabetically online through any Medicare prescription drug plan’s entire formulary. The 2013 Formulary Browser also provides information on drug strengths, packaging, formulary drug tier details, cost-sharing, and drug usage management restrictions. To review a specific Medicare plan’s prescription coverage, Q1Medicare site users can access any stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan or Medicare Advantage plan formulary by using the Formulary Browser found at Q1Medicare.com/FormularyBrowser.
Lastly, the Q1Medicare Long-Term Care (LTC) Drug Tool now also includes the 2013 Medicare drug data. The LTC Drug Tool cross-references over 160 of the most popular brand-name and generic medications used by LTC facilities with the available Medicare Part D prescription drug plans qualifying for each state-specific low-income subsidy $0 premium and institutional Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans (SNPs). The long-term care drug plan overviews can be found directly at Q1Medicare.com/LTC or a state abbreviation can be added to this URL to go directly to that service area. For example, the LTC drug tool for Florida can be found at: Q1Medicare.com/LTC/FL.
“Many Medicare part D plan members will be affected by the 2013 drug data changes and with our Formulary Browser, people can quickly see the details of their particular plan’s 2013 prescription drug coverage,” notes Dr. Susan Johnson, Technical Director and co-founder of Q1Group LLC. “On the other hand, our Drug Finder and LTC drug tools were designed so that our online community can quickly get an overview of how all 2013 Medicare plans in their service area cover a specific medication.”
The Q1Medicare Drug Finder, Formulary Browser, and Long-Term Care Drug tools are available at no cost and designed for PC, smartphone and tablet platforms. The results of the Drug Finder and Formulary Browser are also formatted to be printed for offline use.
Q1Medicare.com reminds seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries that if they wish to add, change, or drop their Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plan coverage, the 2013 annual Open Enrollment Period continues only through December 7th. After December 7th, most Medicare beneficiaries will only have a limited opportunity to change their Medicare plan coverage before 2014.
