The Northern Hotel today announced the appointment of Eric Stenberg as its Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Director for the hotel’s two restaurants. In his new role, Stenberg will oversee all of the four-star hotel’s culinary operations, including menu development, training and food production, as well as catering and banquet support for the Northern meeting and event space.

Stenberg brings more than 30 years of culinary experience to the opening of TEN and Bernie’s Diner. His passion and vision for food is born out of family, tradition and community. Stenberg embraces the philosophy of keeping food simple and cooking from scratch with the highest quality seasonal ingredients, utilizing local products whenever possible.

“We’re excited to have Eric at the helm as we prepare to open TEN and Bernie’s. His experience in the industry is bringing wonderful depth to our menus and service,” said Mike Nelson, co-owner of the Northern Hotel. “Our customers’ taste buds are going to be delighted to encounter the creations coming out of his kitchens.”

Stenberg’s vast knowledge of the industry includes immersing himself in the food culture wherever he lives. He was a part of the initial sustainable food movement in the Portland restaurant scene, attended culinary school in San Francisco and spent time in the French region of Alsace learning about sausage making and Charcuterie. Over the years he has honed his skills working for renowned organic chef Greg Higgins in Portland, Oregon, the 5-star luxury Montana ranch The Resort at Paws Up and as the chef-owner of his own sustainable food based restaurant in Bozeman, Montana. Most recently he worked for The Lodge at Moonlight Basin.

Stenberg’s restaurant, the Savory Olive, was featured in Food and Wine Magazine (“Story of a Steak”) for being at the forefront of the sustainability movement in Montana. It was also named one of the top-20 green restaurants in the United States by Organic Style magazine.

“I’m looking forward to being open for business. We have some wonderful menu selections lined up to provide our guests with a memorable dining experience,” said Eric Stenberg, executive chef and food & beverage director for TEN and Bernie’s Diner. “I’m excited about bringing the social center of the community back to the Northern, with some creative new twists.”

TEN’s fine dining experience and lounge will incorporate local Montana flavors in a modern American style. TEN will be open daily from 4-10pm. Bernie’s Diner features an old fashioned lunch counter that utilizes the freshest ingredients for home-style cooking with modern diner influences. Bernie’s will be serving breakfast and lunch daily from 6am-3pm. Their doors will open on March 16, 2013.
