New for Summer 2013, Louis Cruises is pleased to introduce cruising to the amazing Greek Island of Samos on select 3-day sailings during July and August. The exciting addition of Samos as a new port-of-call is an exclusive summer cruise vacation opportunity offered by Louis Cruises - the foremost specialists in operating cruises throughout the Aegean and the Eastern Med. This enhancement furthers the line’s goal of introducing new islands and destinations to cruise-lovers worldwide.

“As the ambassador of Hellenic culture, cuisine, history and the Greek way of life, Louis Cruises continues to reveal lesser known gems in its home waters. Samos, known for its beauty, history and world famous sweet wines, will dazzle travelers sailing aboard the Louis Olympia on this new 3-day itinerary,” said Nicholas Filippidis, Louis Cruises’ Director of Product Development in North America.

The revised 3-day itinerary for summer 2013 will commence in Pireaus (Athens) then sail to Mykonos, Kusadasi (Ephesus) Samos, Heraklion (Crete), and Santorini before returning to Athens. Samos will be visited on the following Saturdays this summer: July 13, 27 and August 10, 24.

Samos, the center of Ionian culture in classical times and the birthplace of famous ancient philosophers, mathematicians and astronomers such as Pythagoras, Aesop, Epicurus and Aristarchus will soon be experienced by passengers sailing on Louis Cruises’ 3-day itinerary from Piraeus. The Heraion of Samos, a large sanctuary to the Goddess Hera, the fortified port of Pythagoreion and the 6th century BC Eupalinian aqueduct are just three of the many historic sites that travelers may visit on the island.

In Samos, Louis Cruises offers the ideal shore excursion to discover the treasures of this spectacular island: Samos - Excursion to The Aroma, The Flavor, The Tradition. Participants on this optional excursion will embark on a motor coach to the Samos Wine Museum. Inaugurated in the summer of 2005, the museum’s exhibits and impressive representations will lead travelers through paths of fine, aromatic, award-winning wines. Guests will have the opportunity to taste the white Muscat wines that reign supreme over this land. On its next stop, adventurers will arrive at the Monastery of Panagia Spiliani, believed to be the Cave of Pythagoras where the great mathematician once operated a philosophy school. Further along, Pythagoreio the birthplace of Pythagoras, named after the acclaimed philosopher and mathematician awaits. Once at the third largest village of Samos, travelers will relish time at leisure to explore and shop, then return to their Louis Cruises ship to continue their Eastern Mediterranean voyage.

In addition to the summer 2013 departures, the destination of Samos will also be a featured port-of-call visited on Louis Cruises’ 3 and 7-Day Idyllic Aegean cruises in July and August of 2014.
