The National Association of Professional Women honors Sylvia H. Crouse as a 2013/2014 Professional Woman of the Year for leadership in accounting and benefit consulting with this prestigious distinction. As the largest, most-recognized organization of women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 400 Local Chapters.

“My biggest challenge in this job is balancing out at the end of the year as well as monthly. It is a lot of pressure but balancing out is also the most rewarding part of my work,” says Ms. Crouse, who is vice president, office manager and benefits consultant at Crouse Bros. Inc., Excavating. As her titles suggest, Ms. Crouse, who has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Brandywine Junior College, wears many hats.

Keeping accurate records of all financial transactions, from payroll taxes to accounts receivable and payable to contracts and invoices, is only one aspect of her job. Ms. Crouse is also responsible for training employees for a variety of positions. Having been with the family business since 1992, Ms. Crouse knows the intricacies of the company and is easily able to mentor and guide employees as they take on their new roles.

To ensure that all Crouse Bros. employees are well taken care of when it comes to insurance coverage, Ms. Crouse became an AFLAC benefits consultant. “I liked what I heard about AFLAC. The supplemental insurance plan will be very helpful to our employees, especially now with the new healthcare laws,” she said.
