After over twenty years caring for patients in Santa Rosa, veteran orthopedic physician, Michael J. Star, is opening an SRO satellite office in Sonoma to offer his innovative total joint replacement and orthopedic services to residents in the area. SRO and Dr. Star are opening the satellite branch in response to many requests from Sonoma patients, whom have had to travel 40-60 minutes to receive care from SRO’s Santa Rosa offices.

Dr. Star is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of joint replacement and spinal disorders. He attended Boston University’s Six-Year Medical Program in Boston, Massachusetts for his undergraduate and medical studies. Subsequently, Dr. Star completed his residency training at the prestigious State University of New York-Kings County Hospital Center. Dr. Star then finished his fellowships in both Total Joint Replacement and Spinal Disorders at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, CA under the teachings of Drs. Clifford J. Coldwell, Jr., and Roger P. Thorne.
Dr. Star began his practice with Santa Rosa Orthopedics in 1991. Dr. Star concurrently served as the Assistant Clinical Professor at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, UCSF. Dr. Star is the current Chairman of Orthopaedic Services at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Dr. Star is also the director of the Back Care Program at SRO and practices innovative techniques in total joint arthroplasty, spinal disorders and general orthopedics. His expertise is published in several scientific medical publications, including Spine, Journal of Athroplasty, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research and his latest article, Recent Advances in Total Joint Replacement in Sonoma County Medical Association’s Physician Magazine.
