USA TODAY WEEKEND and 10BEST rated Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest as America’s number-one barbecue competition. The national recognition appeared in their recently released ranking of the nation’s most prestigious and entertaining BBQ Competitions as part of “The Best of 2013.” The Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest edged out barbecue contests in Kansas City, MO, Lynchburg, TN and Houston, TX to claim the title as the nation’s number one barbecue contest.

Memphis is known around the globe for its outstanding pork barbecue cuisine, culinary heritage and abundance of outstanding barbecue restaurants. The Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is the pinnacle event in barbecue attracting teams and visitors from around the globe.

Memphis in May and the City of Memphis’ rich barbecue tradition extend beyond the #1
BBQ competition ranking. Memphis in May sanctioned and helped manage the contests at two of the 10Best BBQ competitions during their formative years; The Big Pig Jig, (6th ranked) and Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle, (9th ranked).

The 37th annual World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest will be held May 15 - 17,
2014 in Tom Lee Park in downtown Memphis, TN. More than 250 competition teams from across the country and around the world will compete for over $100,000.00 in prize money and the coveted title of World Champion. Memphis in May International Festival Inc., is the official festival of the City of Memphis, established in 1977.
