Water Environment Research Foundation Accepting Applications for Annual Awards
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) January 16, 2014 -- The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) is accepting applications for the 2014 Award for Excellence in Innovation and Paul L. Busch Award. The awards will be presented at the annual WERF Subscriber Recognition Luncheon in New Orleans on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Water Environment Federation’s WEFTEC event.
According to WERF's Director of Development, Jane Knecht, "This year’s Subscriber Luncheon will recognize the newest award winners and will be especially rewarding as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary. This enduring public-private partnership has and continues to transform the water quality industry.”
The Award for Excellence in Innovation recognizes organizations that have made improvements to wastewater and stormwater collection, storage or treatment operations, facilities, or processes by applying WERF research. The 2013 recipients were the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Hampton Roads Sanitation District, Seattle Public Utilities, and Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation District in Denver.
Applicants for the Award for Excellence in Innovation may self-nominate or be nominated by a third party. Interested organizations must submit their application to WERF by June 1, 2014. More information on the Award for Excellence in Innovation, including the application process, is online at http://www.werf.org/awardforexcellence.
Through the Endowment for Innovation in Applied Water Quality Research, WERF’s Paul L. Busch Award is offering $100,000 to encourage researchers working in wastewater, water reuse, biosolids, stormwater, watersheds, and other areas to pursue groundbreaking research. The WERF Endowment for Innovation in Applied Water Quality Research awarded the 2013 Paul L. Busch Award to Dr. Chul Park, Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research will demonstrate the ability to treat wastewater with low oxygen requirements and to efficiently collect biomass that can be anaerobically digested to generate methane.
The Paul L. Busch Award is granted to an individual or team. Utilities, universities, environmental firms, and others conducting water quality research or engineering work are encouraged to apply. Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by a third party. Interested individuals or teams must submit their application to WERF by June 1, 2013. More information on the Paul L. Busch Award, including the application process, is online at http://www.werf.org/PaulLBusch.
