The five best heart rate monitors for 2014 have been named by the test staff at the Heart Rate Watch Company.
"We've done this every year for 5 years and we continue to update customers through our blog if we find anything better", says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company.
Best General Fitness Monitor
Polar RCX5 has five zones, divides calories into total and from fat, integrates with loads of sensor and offers a dual frequency chest strap that delivers heart rate in the water. "You can't get much more versatile than this", says Squire.
Best Weightlifting and Strength Training
"Polar FT80 still is the only watch with a graphical recovery indicator but I think Suunto Quest is also a great watch in the gym as well if you know your zones", says Squire.
Best Runners Heart Rate Monitor
Garmin Forerunner 620 is without a doubt the best runners watch and heart rate monitor ever made. "It measures not only biometrics but gives you data that can help you work on biomechanics - how sweet is that", says Squire.
Best Cycling Heart Rate Monitor
Garmin Forerunner 910XT delivers more cycling metrics than any other heart rate monitor but Squire thinks an update that will add Bluetooth and other new features will likely be coming around October 2014.
Best iPhone Heart Rate Monitor
Polar H7 with Bluetooth Smart integrates superbly with iPhone but also gets picked up by the vast majority of gym equipment. "This pick was a no-brainer", says Squire.
Best Activity Band Heart Rate Monitor
"Polar Loop is the only one for now but we'll see how it fares with competition from Garmin Vivofit in late March", says Squire. He adds, "Both these bands put the competition to shame".
