The latest technologies were unveiled when the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) opened in Las Vegas on Tuesday, January 7. Brett Larson, Emmy Award winning technology and trends reporter, gave TV viewers and radio listeners a glimpse of this year’s line-up of electronics, gizmos and gadgets.
The first CES took place in New York City in June of 1967. Since then, thousands of products have been announced at the yearly show, including many that have transformed consumers lives: such as the Videocassette Recorder (VCR), 1970; Compact Disc Player, 1981; High Definition Television (HDTV), 1998; 3D HDTV, 2009; Ultra HDTV, Flexible OLED, Driverless Car Technology, 2013.
Owned and produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the 2014 CES is the world’s largest annual innovation event and took place January 7-10, 2014, in Las Vegas. The 2014 CES drew around 150,000 industry professional attendees to witness the next generation of consumer technology. More than 3,000 exhibitors debuted 20,000 new products across 1.8 million net square feet of exhibit space.
During the show, Brett Larson uncovered some of the cool tech trends and gadgets below.
Customers can watch and record up to eight shows simultaneously with Hopper by pairing it with DISH’s new “SuperJoey” – a client that adds two network tuners to the Hopper’s native three tuners. While extending the capabilities of a Hopper to any television in a household, SuperJoey gives users the ability to watch and record up to eight shows simultaneously -- any four shows plus the four major broadcast networks. Alternatively, the five network turners allow users to watch and record ANY five shows from any network.
DISH’s Wireless Joey system opens up installation options where coaxial or Ethernet wiring is difficult to achieve or undesirable, like above the fireplace or in the kitchen. The Wireless Joey installation includes a Wireless Joey Access Point and a Wireless Joey client. The Wireless Joey Access Point can serve two Wireless Joey clients by creating its own dedicated 802.11ac “Wi-Fi cloud” within the home. This approach ensures that other Wi-Fi devices in a household do not degrade the Hopper’s video quality. The Wireless Joey Access Point connects directly to the Hopper and will work in homes that do not have Internet access.
DISH has joined the debut of the new Sony PlayStation® 4 system with the release of a software app that gives users the ability to access a ‘Virtual Joey’ providing a near identical experience to the Hopper’s hardware-based Joeys within the PS4™ environment. DISH is also releasing a Joey app for the PlayStation® 3 system and select 2013 and 2014 LG Smart TVs. As with a hardware-based Joey, the software-based clients provide access to and control of Hopper content, including live TV, recordings, video-on-demand programs and navigation of the electronic program guide. These software-based Joey clients give customers the ability to access Hopper in any room, without extra components, or even wires. Visit http://www.dish.com/CES for more information.
