PicoSure is able to effectively treat tattoo and lesion removal by delivering short-pulse bursts of energy to the skin.

Board certified dermatologists Robert Weiss, MD, Margaret Weiss, MD and Karen Beasley, MD of Maryland Laser Skin and Vein Institute are proud to be the first practice in all of Maryland to offer the PicoSure™ laser for the removal of tattoos and benign pigmented lesions. Cleared by the FDA in late 2012, the device makers, Cynosure, began selling the device to physicians in early 2013.
"We always strive to offer the most cutting-edge, advanced treatments to our patients, and we consider the PicoSure™ laser to be extremely effective and the best option for treating patients desiring to remove tattoos," said co-Director of the Institute, Dr. Robert Weiss. "PicoSure™ is able to effectively treat tattoo and lesion removal by delivering short-pulse bursts of energy to the skin,” continued Dr. Weiss.
An estimated 20 percent of individuals in the US with at least one tattoo wish to have it removed. By offering this innovative device for patients, the doctors at Maryland Laser Skin and Vein Institute are able to help more patients remove stubborn blue and green ink from under the skin. The laser saw nearly 94% clearance of blue and green tattoo ink in the 22 subject clinical study.
Previous tattoo removal devices have not seen the same successful tattoo clearance that the PicoSure laser has demonstrated. “The PicoSure™ laser is a great addition to our practice, as now we are able to successfully remove our patients’ unwanted tattoos in fewer treatments,” commented Margaret, Weiss, MD, Maryland Laser Skin and Vein Institute’s co-director. “As we have seen an increase in tattoo regret over the last few years, we now feel confident that our patients will be happy with the degree of tattoo removal provided by the PicoSure device.”
The PicoSure laser system typically requires multiple treatments, but due to the picosecond technology, involving rapid pulses to the tattoo ink, fewer treatments are required versus traditional tattoo removal technologies.
