Bloomfield, CT (PRWEB) February 14, 2014
The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation announced that the Norma F. Pfriem Foundation Inc. of Bridgeport, Conn. has awarded it a $1 million grant in support of Fidelco’s life-changing mission.
“Fidelco is most grateful to be an important part of Ms. Pfriem’s living legacy,” said Eliot D. Russman, Fidelco’s CEO and Executive Director. “This gift serves as a continuation of our joint effort to provide increased freedom and independence to men and women who are blind by providing them with the highest quality guide dogs available anywhere in the world.”
Ms. Pfriem and her foundation have donated to Fidelco since 1992 for important projects that include the Successor Client Guide Dog Program, the Norma F. Pfriem Pup House, an endowment for the Apprentice Guide Dog Trainer Program and, as part of the Fidelco capital campaign, construction of the Norma F. Pfriem Pavilion. The $1 million grant will be added to a permanent endowment established in 2006 in the name of Norma F. Pfriem.
Fidelco shares the Pfriem Foundation’s deep roots in Connecticut; since its founding in 1960, it remains Connecticut’s only guide dog school. Fidelco breeds, trains and places its own unique breed of German Shepherd Guide Dogs for people who are blind. The non-profit organization relies solely on the gifts and the generosity of individuals, foundations, corporations and civic organizations. For more information visit http://www.fidelco.org.
