In a letter to the Guardian newspaper, a 23-year-old wrote that while she had worked hard to save over the past few years, her wages could not keep up with house prices and the escalating costs of living.
Another Briton commented: “Since the banks crashed the property market five years ago I have been in negative equity. This means I cannot re-mortgage with a good interest rate, thus allowing the banks to maintain their strangle hold, preventing me from paying down my mortgage enough to get a better rate.”
Mr Otton has responded by saying that it was everyone’s right to have affordable and secure housing, that housing was a social justice issue, and that all individuals had the option to discover creative real estate strategies that would win them long-term financial freedom.
