Fall Risk Assessment using the Biodex Balance System SD

Shirley, NY (PRWEB) February 20, 2014

Biodex Medical Systems is pleased to announce the addition of the Balance System SD into the Fall Risk Screening Program of Glenwood Care Facility, Oxnard, CA.

Glenwood is a skilled nursing facility that provides short-term rehabilitation as well as long-term care. The goal at Glenwood is to provide patients with premier care and get them back home. The numbers exemplify Glenwood’s success; 97% of those admitted to Glenwood either go home or to a lower level of care.

Glenwood continually looks to improve its rehabilitation services with new techniques and technology. One of the areas of focus for changing the image of the facility was the way the rehabilitation process was being viewed. “We were looking to move away from passive therapy to active therapy,” explains Dave Merkley, Executive Director of Glenwood. The decision was made to add the Biodex Balance System SD to their rehabilitation program as part of this move in a new direction.

Glenwood is using the Balance System SD to assess fall risk of both short-term and long-term patients. It is used out in the community at health fairs and at local assisted living facilities. Future plans include promoting to the area physicians and hospital discharge planners in order to position Glenwood as the leading provider of Medicare-paid short-term inpatient rehabilitation in the area.
