The browser toolbars and cashback browser plug in developers BestToolBars have published a top 10 list of cashback plug in features affecting revenue. The list is the latest in a series of research projects which have been designed to delve into what makes a plug in really tick and how the tool can be used to generate revenue by cashback companies.
Published this week, the list, entitled “Top 10 Cashback Plugin Features that Affect Revenue” can be used as a checklist by plug in developers to ensure they are not missing any of the powerful features proven to accelerate income.
Number one on the list is the importance of including a notification slider, which ensures that the plug in user never forgets to use the relevant affiliate link at the moment of purchase. The second feature to affect revenue is cross-browser support with BestToolBars highlighting the need for the plug in to work not just in one time market leader Internet Explorer but also in other browsers which are increasingly popular including Chrome and Firefox.
In third place is SERP injections, which is used to display the cashback company icon next to relevant listings on the search engine results pages. This alerts the plugin user to the cashback possibility helping to encourage shoppers to use the affiliate code.
Autoapplying coupons, a feature which automatically finds the best possible coupon at point of sale for the shopper, is in fourth place for obvious reasons while a price comparison feature took fifth spot. This functionality looks for better deals for the same product a user is browsing online, giving the shopper the option to buy the same item at a lower cost elsewhere. This feature can be useful in prompting undecided shoppers to commit to buy, therefore increasing revenue.
Detecting affiliate link hijacking was the sixth cashback plugin feature that can positively affect revenue by ensuring links are not replaced with those of rival affiliates at the moment of purchase.
A single all browser installation to speed up the download and install process was seventh in BestToolBars’ Top 10 with a sidebar option in eighth place. In the penultimate position was a plug in menu, which offers user-friendly benefits such as easy access to pertinent information including cash back available.
Finally, a flashing plugin icon next to the site URL was deemed to also be a factor affecting revenue. This flashing logo would alert the user to the fact cashback was available while browsing, making them more likely to make a purchase.
