ACE awarded its first reaccreditation today to the cardiac catheterization laboratory and CathPCI program at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. It’s another first for a hospital already nationally recognized in 2011 for being the first to receive ACE accreditation.
“Achieving and maintaining the highest standard of care for our patients has always been our goal at Bon Secours St. Francis,” says Mark Nantz, chief executive officer, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. “But accreditation, and now reaccreditation, recognizes the hard work and commitment of our catheterization team and validates what we’ve known all along: the excellent care we provide is a continuous process of improving patient safety and quality of care by comparing our practices against gold-standard peer-reviewed methodologies and nationwide outcomes data.”
ACE accreditation is a strategic, long-term approach based on comparing information collected against national data and best practices as defined by experts in the field of interventional cardiology. To achieve ACE reaccreditation, the physicians and staff at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System worked hand in hand with ACE’s expert cardiology professionals to implement appropriate use criteria, engage physicians in the quality outcomes process, and validate compliance with current published guidelines and consensus documents.
“The ACE reaccreditation process is a significant accomplishment in that it demonstrates a program’s daily commitment and success in exceeding the rigorous standards met during their initial accreditation,” says Bonnie Weiner, M.D., MSEC, MBA, FSCAI, FACC, and ACE’s chief medical officer. “As the first catheterization program in the country to be reaccredited, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System has once again served as a model for other programs aiming to achieve the highest standard in cardiology care to better serve their patients.”
Programs that achieve full accreditation are recognized by ACE for two years, at which time their facility must be reviewed again for continued recognition.
