Five heroic medics, corpsmen and pararescuemen have been chosen as this year’s ‘Angels of the Battlefield’, sponsored by the Armed Services YMCA. The two women and three men represent each of the five service branches of the U.S. military, and have been chosen for providing life-saving medical treatment, often on the battlefield under fire, and while disregarding their own safety.
“These are the men and women that bring our heroes back to us safe and sound. These service members face extreme danger to offer crucial life-saving treatment, often minutes after an injury. This immediate care is what makes the difference in life and death on the battlefield,” says Mike Landers, President and CEO of Armed Services YMCA.
The service members were chosen by their Service Chiefs, and will accept their awards at the 8th Annual ‘Angels of the Battlefield Gala’ March 26, in Washington, D.C. The 2014 Angels include:
The Gala to honor the service members will feature entertainment by country music star, Savannah Berry, finalist from NBC’s the Voice, and a keynote address by Admiral James “Sandy” Winnefeld, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Approximately 350 guests are expected to attend, including senior military and enlisted service members alike. Sponsorships for the evening are still available.
