Throughout his career, Mr. Binder developed strong expertise in the full range of disputes, litigation and arbitration arising in his industries, including complex patent disputes, licensing, and high-value contract negotiations. During the time he served as Amgen CEO, the world’s largest biotech company, from 1988 through 2000, Mr. Binder directed litigations and complex arbitrations involving more than $100 million in legal fees. Prior to joining Amgen in 1982 as CFO, Mr. Binder served as CFO of System Development Corporation, a computer systems and software company primarily serving the federal government, and in financial management positions at Litton Industries and Ford Motor Company. He is the past chairman of BIO, the biotechnology industry trade association, and PhRMA, the pharmaceutical industry trade association.

Mr. Binder received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, and his master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
