High quality security systems for busy areas such as Winterton town centre are vital for keeping residents and business owners feeling safe as well as deterring criminals and reducing crime rates for the overall good of the town.

As reported in the story, ‘New CCTV system planned for town centre,’ published in the Scunthorpe Telegraph on March 12th 2014, plans for an updated CCTV security system in Winterton town centre are gaining steam, with local councillor Elaine Marper announcing £40,000 of funding for the project in North Lincolnshire Council’s budget, details of which were recently released. The plans for an updated system in the town come following a recent spike in reports of vandalism and antisocial behaviour.

Town clerk Angela Grounds was also keen to denounce rumours that the current CCTV system is dummy, saying: "Representatives of the town council have been working with cabinet member Carl Sherwood, Humberside Police and Safer Neighbourhoods to design and fund a new and updated system. No monies have yet been allocated, however it is hoped that funding may well be received from North Lincolnshire Council from its allocated CCTV budget.

“Winterton has had a CCTV system in place for many years. The cameras are not and never have been dummy. However, the system is old and in need of updating. The town council would like to reassure residents and confirm that precept has been spent on cameras and monitoring."

Business security specialists, AlertSystems, have commented on news of Winterton’s updated CCTV camera system, commending the move to improve security in the town centre. A spokesperson for the company said:

“High quality security systems for busy areas such as Winterton town centre are vital for keeping residents and business owners feeling safe as well as deterring criminals and reducing crime rates for the overall good of the town. Despite Winterton having had CCTV cameras installed in the past, an updated CCTV security system has the potential to greatly improve on the frequency of vandalism, crime and antisocial behaviour in this area of the town.”
