Lewiston, ME (PRWEB) March 17, 2014
Drews Dental Services is pleased to announce that their Certified Dental Assistant, Matthew Theriault, will soon become the office’s first Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA). He is scheduled to complete the program this spring.
EFDAs allow a team to be more productive and lighten the load on the dentist, which in turn decreases stress for the whole office. In Maine, the job functions for EFDAs include coronal polishing, suture removal, pouring and trimming of dental models, fabricating temporary restorations, removal of composite using a slow-speed hand piece to de-bond brackets, taking X-rays and temporary restorations, as well as placing and carving restoratives prior to final curing and applying topical fluorides and sealants.
To become an EFDA, employees must be a Certified Dental Assistant or licensed as a dental hygienist. They must then complete a board-approved Commission on Dental Accreditation accredited EFDA program and jurisprudence exam and receive a CPR certificate and certification as EFDA by endorsement approved. They are also required to complete 50 hours of continuing education every five years.
