“This year, we are honored to present Mark with the Legacy Award not only for his remarkable career, but in recognition of his thriving endeavors with NBC Sports Group. His vision and impact on sports media will be felt for generations.” --Chris Pursell

Cynopsis Sports is proud to announce that one of the industry’s most distinguished executives will be honored at the third annual Cynopsis Sports Media Awards Breakfast on April 17 at The Yale Club in New York City. He and other distinguished honorees will be joined by dozens of finalists who are competing for signature sports business awards presented by the daily sports business publication.
Boasting some of the hottest properties and ratings around the world of sports, NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus will be the recipient of the prestigious Legacy Award this year, honoring his transformational work in how sports, sponsors and sports fans interact and engage.
The honor recognizes an industry-leading sports executive who has changed the face of sports over the course of his career, and continues to set new benchmarks for his brand. As the leader of the NBC Sports Group, Lazarus manages partnerships with many of the most-prestigious properties in sports and was integral in NBCUniversal’s recent acquisition of media rights to four Olympic Games, its new 9-year NFL agreement and its recent 10-year agreement with the NHL. Under Lazarus’ leadership, Sunday Night Football was the most-watched and highest-rated primetime show for the second television season in a row; Super Bowl XLVI between the Giants and the Patriots became the most-watched program in U.S. television history; and the 2012 London Olympic Games was the most-watched event in U.S. television history, with more than 217 million viewers. Also, Lazarus took the bold step of live streaming all competition for the first time ever for both the 2012 London and 2014 Sochi Olympics. The results speak for themselves as NBC Sports Live Extra set TV Everywhere streaming and authentication records in both cases, while still maintaining huge primetime audiences on NBC and record numbers with live competitions on cable, especially figure skating on NBCSN this past February.
“The Cynopsis Sports Media Awards are recognized as a celebration of the best work in sports across television, marketing, digital as well as other platforms as judged by peers throughout the industry,” said Chris Pursell, Director of Content for Cynopsis Sports. “This year, we are honored to present Mark with the Legacy Award not only for his remarkable career, but in recognition of his thriving endeavors with NBC Sports Group. His vision and impact on sports media will be felt for generations.”
