Kids Konnect’s Insect Day on April 26, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., lets students get up close and personal with the critters from SaveNature.org and engage in hands-on science stations. By learning about the colors, exoskeletons and anatomy of insects like the Giant African millipede and Darkling beetle, kids get first-hand experience with insects from around the world. Although science is underutilized in preschool curricula, it’s one of the most important ways to build children’s cognitive, language and problem-solving skills—all skills that prepare students for academic success in years ahead.

“By nature, children are incredibly curious about the world around them,” says Makinya Ward, owner/founder of Kids Konnect. “We engage their sense of wonder by using science to make learning exciting and fun. When kids approach learning from a place of exploration, they grow by leaps and bounds.”

According to the National Institute for Early Education Research, science and math education in a child’s early years leads to increased achievement, literacy and critical work skills. In this vein, Kids Konnect’s science programming provides opportunities for children to question, plan, predict, report and reflect. Activities are designed to be age-appropriate for toddlers, preschoolers and pre-K children. Their science program is just one part of a comprehensive curriculum that centers on a stimulating and hands-on approach to learning in a fun and playful environment.

Insect Day also serves as an Open House event for parents and families. Kids Konnect’s Oakland site is a newly-opened second site for the school, which has been serving Bay Area families from its Pacifica location for ten years. Located at 8800 Fontaine Street in Oakland, Kids Konnect’s facility includes roomy activity and learning areas and a sprawling playground yard that overlooks the Bay. Bay Area parents and their kids are welcome to drop in and check out the science, facility and staff. This is a free event.

Kids Konnect is a preschool serving families of Oakland, Pacifica and surrounding communities. It exists to provide a safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate environment for toddler and preschool age children. Kids Konnect provides tools and stimuli to keep children engaged in learning socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. It partners with parents to prepare young children for school success and to be life-long learners.
