AndroGel is a part of a drug group called testosterone replacement therapy drugs. The FDA (Testosterone Products: Drug Safety Communication - FDA Investigating Risk of Cardiovascular Events 01/31/2014) has recently begun monitoring the correlation between low testosterone therapy and heart problems. Cardiovascular health issues have been linked to the use of low testosterone therapy treatments including AndroGel. AbbVie, Inc. the maker of AndroGel has been sued in federal court by men alleging they have experienced heart health problems after being prescribed AndroGel.

According to a March 14th order from the executive committee of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, 30 cases that were filed against AbbVie, Inc. have been consolidated under Hon. Judge Mathew Kennelly and Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez. According to Pacer, the March 14th order states, “It is further ordered that any such cases shall remain pending on the calendars of the judges to whom they are currently assigned, and that an order be entered in each case by Judge Kennelly at such time as coordinated pretrial proceedings have concluded.” *1

The cases filed against AbbVie proclaiming that AndroGel may cause heart health issues followed a study that was released by the Journal of the American Medical Association on 11/5/2013 (Association of Testosterone Therapy With Mortality, Myocardial Infarction, and Stroke in Men With Low Testosterone Levels). The study concluded that men undergoing testosterone replacement therapy have increased risk of developing heart problems. Some cardiovascular risks involved with the testosterone replacement therapy include stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, and death.

If you or a loved one has been treated for low testosterone and suffered a heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism or cardiac event the Commack, NY law firm of Rudolph F.X. Migliore, P.C. is currently investigating cases involving testosterone therapy treatments which include various prescription drugs including AndroGel, Bio-T-Gel, Dep-Testerone, Testim, Axiron, Delatesty, Fortesta, Testopel, Androderm, and Striant.
