“Here’s a great opening blues phrase that’s heard in countless records,” says MacLennan. Jon explains how to play this lick as follows; 3rd string, 6th fret with 2nd finger and then slide up one half step to the 7th fret. Then he puts his first finger on the 6th fret of the 2nd string and then to the 8th fret with his 3rd finger. Next he uses his first finger on the 6th fret of the first string and plays that note twice. Jon says that this sequence is based on a Bb (B flat) Triad and there are many licks based out of this in both blues and jazz guitar playing. Jon continues this easy blues guitar lesson by demonstrating the lick inside of a blues chord progression. Complete guitar TAB’s are available for this blues guitar lesson at BluesGuitar.com.
