Our thoughts and concerns are with the families and loved ones of those injured and killed and with the whole Fort Hood community.

Give an Hour™ (http://www.giveanhour.org), a national nonprofit organization providing mental health services, at no-cost, to members of the military, veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, their loved ones, and their communities, is offering services to anyone affected by the shootings at Fort Hood.
“Our thoughts and concerns are with the families and loved ones of those injured and killed and with the whole Fort Hood community,” says Barbara Van Dahlen, Ph.D., founder and president of Give an Hour. “Although most service members and veterans lead healthy and productive lives, some understandably need our support. Some will struggle in life with issues they brought into the military with them. Others will struggle as they process their deployment and combat experiences. And still others will face challenges as they reintegrate into the civilian world,” notes Dr. Van Dahlen.
Give an Hour is harnessing the expertise and generosity of civilian mental health professionals to provide just such support. Understanding that these kinds of tragic events affect many more people than just the immediate community, Give an Hour is calling upon licensed mental health professionals across the country to join the Give an Hour network to ensure that help is available whenever and wherever it is needed.
“As with all of these tragic situations, we need to take time to understand the specific details before we make conclusions or assign blame. We don't yet know what caused this individual's deterioration and violent behavior. What is clear is that our job is to educate, raise awareness, and provide services to those in need so they do not suffer--and so they do not harm themselves or others,” adds Dr. Van Dahlen.
