Host GJ Reynolds and co-host Neil Haley, The Total Tutor of the SimplyG Radio Show, interviewed Kurt Warner to find out about his latest project First and Goal.
Reynolds shared, "Kurt you have been such an excellent role model, both on the field and off of it. Thank you!"
Warner’s gained superstar status in 1999 when he emerged from obscurity to lead the St. Louis Rams to a victory in Super Bowl XXXIV. Warner was named the NFL and Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. He led the Rams to two additional playoff appearances, including another Super Bowl. He was named to the NFL Pro Bowl 4 times and named NFL MVP for the second time in 2001. He ended his career with the Arizona Cardinals, setting franchise records for touchdowns, attempts, completions, completion percentage and passer rating.
In this interview, Warner discussed his project First and Goal. According to Warner, after finding out he out he had high cholesterol he changed his diet and started exercising, but the high cholesterol persisted. He wanted to take care of the problem—his dad had heart surgery related to high cholesterol and Warner was trying to avoid following that path. He learned there is a hereditary factor, so he consulted his doctor and created a game plan. The doctor put him on statin, which is a drug aimed at lowering cholesterol.
Now, said Warner, he wants others to find out and get in to the game of heart health. He's on a mission through his First and Goal project to raise awareness and help people get checked out by a doctor—even if they are currently healthy.
“So many people give up at 40,” said host GJ Reynolds. "My best days are ahead of me. I hope others start to think that way as well.”
During the show, Warner talked about statins. "Not all statins are the same. I had side effects with one of the medications I was taking. LIVALO is different than other medications. Sit down with your doctor and ask about the options."
